Speakerphone, AudioEase's professional audio tool powered by Altiverb, has just been updated to version 1.1. The new release, free to registered users, adds automatable IR switching, Pro Tools Leopard support and sped up preset switching.

Speakerphone 1.1 highlights include:

- both the speaker impulse responses and the room impulse responses can now be automated, making Speakerphone a much smoother ride in post pro sessions
- Speakerphone has passed testing on HD and LE systems under Mac OS X Leopard / Pro Tools 7.4.2.

"Speakerphone has been very successful so far. Really a lot more people have been waiting for it than we expected," says Arjen of Audio Ease. "We thought the percentage of usage in post production would have been larger than it turns out to be. Post Production editors use it to quickly whip up a complete scene of crowd, helicopters, sirens and crackling walkie talkies for instance. But surprisingly our on-line polls show that a substantial part of the Speakerphone customers is mainly doing music: re-amping done with Speakerphone's collection of guitar cabinets, but also the occasional nu-metal vocalist tired of his own megaphone."

Speakerphone combines a wealth of effects and a convolution engine that uses actual samples of hundreds of original speakers, a radio receiver tuning dial, record player scratch and static generator, GSM cell phone data compression, distortion, tremolo, delay, EQ and dynamics, bit crushing, sample rate reduction, a full blown convolution reverb, and a library of samples to combine into entire environments.

Speakerphone can add dial tones, operators and static, and you can select from a wide range of ambiences on either the caller or the receiver's end. The program is basically an impulse-response based speaker emulator, a convolution reverb and a sample player all in one. It can produce complete scenery where any speaker is involved, while operation is extremely simple and quick. The software contains 270 speaker impulse responses powered by Altiverb, 30 Altiverb rooms, 5 gigabytes of ambiences and sound FX, conveniently presented to you in 500 presets.

Visit AudioEase's web site for more information on Speakerphone and to update to the latest version for Mac. A guided tour of the software is also available on the developer's web site.
