The official website of Russian football team Spartak Moscow has been attacked earlier this week, allegedly by Turkish hackers.

The attack began shortly after the Russian team beat Turkish team Fenerbahce in a game part of Champions League – the most important European football event.

“Our site is still under attack by Turkish hackers. We are doing everything we can to get it back soon in working condition!” Spartak representatives wrote on Twitter.

It’s unknown how the club’s officials determined that the perpetrators were from Turkey, but according to Russian news website RIA, it may have something to do with the fact that during the game Russian fans mocked Mustafa Kemal Ataturk – Turkey’s first president.

They held a picture of Ataturk upside down and later burned it.

At press time, Spartak’s website (spartak.com) displays a “403 Forbidden” error message.
