A minimalist mail application for Mac, Sparrow is getting ready for its Mac App Store debut, according to the creators. Sparrow will be available in both paid and free versions. It will be ad-supported, and will allow a single account to be used with the app.

A post on blog.sparrowmailapp.com reveals that “Sparrow 1.0 is almost ready and will come with a few surprises.”

The developers explain, “We have recently started a Private Beta. The last bugs are being fixed right now thanks to the precious help of a dedicated team of beta testers. The app should be submitted to the Mac AppStore at the end of the week.”

Their plan is to release two separate versions of Sparrow to get everyone acquainted with the new version - both existing users, and newcomers:

Paid: Sparrow will cost $24,99 but early birds will benefit from the $19,99 introductory price.

Free: Sparrow Lite will be ad-supported. Carbon Ads is providing the nice ads you have certainly seen in the latest Beta version. The free version will allow one-account creation only.

Both the paid and the free/lite versions of Sparrow will be available on Apple’s Mac App Store and on sparrowmailapp.com.

It is up to the user where they download Sparrow from.

Unfortunately, the development team cannot say exactly when the app is released on Apple’s Mac App Store, since it will be pending approval.

“We can’t provide any precise release date yet as the application has to be approved by Apple. We’ll keep you updated on our progress as soon as we have news,” says the team at Sparrow.

However, the Sparrow 1.0 official release should not be particularly affected by the Mac App Store approval process.

After all, the team did say that both versions of their app would be available on their web site as well.
