SparkyLinux 3.5, a lightweight, fast, and simple Linux distribution designed for both old and new computers featuring customized LXDE, Razor-Qt, CLI, E18 & E19-dev desktops is now available for download.

SparkyLinux 3.5 continues to sport the codename "Annagerman" and is built on Debian GNU/Linux "Jessie." The latest iteration is not very different from the previous version, but it does feature some interesting changes and improvements

The developers of SparkyLinux also provide a number of other flavors for this particular distribution, but the current update covers LXDE, Razor-Qt, CLI, and Enlightenment 18. It looks like the developers also chose to add the Enlightenment 19-dev, which is a very interesting desktop environment. As you can easily see from the selection, all the DEs are very light and should work on very low-end systems.

"SparkyLinux 3.5 'Annagerman' LXDE, Razor-Qt, CLI, Enlightenment 18 & 19-dev is out. New Live/Install iso images provide up to date packages and a few changes. All packages have been synchronized with Debian 'testing' repositories as of 02/09/2014. The system runs on Linux kernel 3.14.2 (3.14.15-2)," reads the official announcement.

The developers have updated the Linux kernel to a newer version. It's not the latest, but it's quite new and it should provide adequate support for various pieces of hardware.

A new tool called Sparky-APTus-Extra has been implemented and allows users to easily install applications from the SparkyLinux repository, such as Custom ISO Builder, DEB Package Builder, Dropbox, Eraser, JDownloader Installer, Live USB Creator, Nightingale, RSSOwl, SeaMonkey, Skype, SpiderOak, Steam, TeamViewer, TOR Browser, TrueCrypt, VMware Player Installer, zuluCrypt, and more.

Also, users might notice that a number of new applications have been added to the official repos: Spideroak, TOR Browser, VMWare Player On-Line Installer, JDownloader On-Line Installer, and zuluCrypt.

The devs have also said that if users would like to test E19, they will have to remove all of the old E17/18 packages and its libs. This can be done very easily from a terminal, just by entering a few commands (you will need to be root in order to make this work):

code
apt-get remove enlightenment terminology
apt-get autoremove
apt-get update
apt-get install e19
The E19-dev is not called like that without a good reason. It's still in development and users will find that it's still missing a lot of features.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement of the SparkyLinux distro. You can download SparkyLinux 3.5 LXDE, SparkyLinux 3.5 e18, and SparkyLinux 3.5 Razor-Qt right now from Softpedia.
