The verified Twitter account of Jordan Eberle (@ebs_14), the Canadian professional ice hockey right winger currently playing for Edmonton Oilers, has been hacked by spammers.

“Guess I just got hacked,” Eberle wrote to his 184,000 Twitter followers.

The hackers posted the following tweet from his account: “Shed over 8 pounds while cutting 2 inches off your belly in 7 days [link].”

The link from the message points to a fake Women’s Health website that advertises some shady Garcinia Cambogia extract diet. The cybercriminals behind these attack have been running this campaign for months, using compromised Twitter accounts to lure unsuspecting internauts to their websites.

While Eberle might be aware of the breach, he has failed to do one very important thing: remove the spam tweet from his account.

Eberle is not the only Canadian professional ice hockey player whose Twitter account is hacked. Back in July, someone hijacked the account of Tyler Seguin. However, in that case, it was the work of a troll, not spammers.
