Two out of every three visits to pornographic web pages occur during working hours

Panda Software has issued a press release summarizing the data collected via GateDefender Performa on the impact suffered by corporate environments hit with spam, malware and employee surfing habits. "- Personal use of the Internet accounts for almost an hour of employees' time every day, which in 2005 resulted in losses over ?300,000 million", Panda calculated.

Additionally, Panda Software's metrics indicate that as 21% of corporate emails is spam, while 5% of the total volume of Internet traffic is infected with malware. In this context, corporate environments suffer financial damages associated with malicious emails of 136,000 euros per company on an annual basis.

Panda Software's data was gathered following a monitoring period of 24 hours of 20 companies deploying the Panda GateDefender Performa SCM (Secure Content Management) appliance. The survey concluded that 40% of Internet traffic is not related to work. "Two out of every three visits to pornographic web pages occur during working hours, with the consequent loss of productivity and bandwidth consumption," also stated Panda.
