Spam Might Cause Death!

- The pills brought through spam are extremely dangerous

All the Internet users and especially the e-mail owners are assaulted every day with millions of spam messages. Although there are numerous antispam utilities currently available, some of them are quite useless and let spam messages invade our inbox. Usually, the unwanted messages
advertise medicines or watches but I must recognize that Viagra is one of the most popular products included in spam emails. Some time ago, I wrote an article to present the stuff included in spam but now you should know that buying pills or other medicines from these messages can cause death.

I guess this was quite obvious but Sophos released a security advisory to present an interesting research over the spam messages. The security company posted an image included in numerous spam emails that advertise Ephedra, a dietary supplement that is illegal in the USA. Although the sale of the medicine is not allowed, spammers are continuously trying to sell the product using messages sent to millions of email addresses.

"There are two big dangers in buying slimming pills over the internet. Firstly, you are buying drugs without medical advice which may be inappropriate for your physical condition and could do you more harm than good. Secondly, you have no guarantee that what you are actually buying is the real medication. It could be that the spammers are increasing their margins by selling you bogus medications that you may have an unpleasant reaction to," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Spammers don't care about people's health, they only care about their profits. If you have a medical problem consult a doctor, not an internet crook," Sophos reported.

So, is there any chance of blocking all these spam messages? I guess not, but you can reduce the number of the unwanted mails by using a filter or a web-based email provider such as Gmail that is currently regarded as the most efficient antispam service.
