The conductor in the deadly train crash and derailment in Spain which took place on Wednesday has been arrested, reports say.

According to the Mirror, Francisco Jose Garzon took over the steering of the train from another driver 65 miles (104 km) before crashing.

As I wrote before, he was going twice the speed limit, at 190 kmh (118 mph). Before going off the tracks he called management and let them know his speed. He was panicking and was well aware of what was about to happen.

“I’m going to derail,” he told them.

The driver, which had been working with Renfe for 30 years, has previously boasted about his love for speed on Facebook, posting the photo of a speedometer, which can be seen above this news blog.

“What joy it would be to get level with the police and then go past them making their speed guns go off. Ha ha!” the caption to the picture reads.
