Both games use same universe and similar mechanics

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, the third person action title from THQ and Relic, has been launched this year and did well in the NPD Group software chart for September but the game might not get a sequel despite a good performance.

Speaking to Joystiq Danny Bilson, who is the leader of the core gaming division at THQ, has said, “It’s a really good game, it’s doing pretty well. In this world, honestly, you have to do exceptionally well to make any money, because the games are so expensive.”

He then added, “We’ve already announced the Imperium in the MMO as a class you can play. And if you combine that it’s very active, as opposed to the more turn-based stuff. I’m not sure there’s room for Space Marine.”

Bilson has made it clear that the new deal between Games Workshop, the creators of the two Warhammer universes, and THQ allows the video game company to create more titles based on them, although no official announcements have yet been made.

We already know that Dark Millenium Online, which is being developed by Vigil Games, known for putting together Darksiders, will not be launched during 2012 so the space to launch a new Space Marine game is there.

Relic is currently working on Dawn of War III, a strategy title that has no release date at the moment and for which limited details have been offered.

The developers have admitted that Space Marine was not a perfect product but said that all the main features that they were interested in were solid and that there's room to iterate and innovate inside the genre.

Dark Millenium Online will allow players to explore a whole sector of space that is contested by all the major races of the Warhammer 40,000 universe but only the Imperium of Man and the Orks have been confirmed as being playable until now.
