The classic celebrates its 30th birthday like no other

Space Invaders, the legendary game that was enjoyed so much by everybody when it was launched thirty years ago, is going to get a facelift, a bit of redesign and will be brought to life again for Nintendo DS and PSP handheld consoles, to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Named Space Invaders Extreme, the arcade shooter will hit the portable consoles on the 17th of June, being developed by TAITO and published by Square Enix.

The game promises to be a delight both for those who have experienced the original game and feel nostalgic and for those fighting against the invaders for the first time. The game concept will be the same: you will have to shoot, attack and put an end to the assault by destroying the invaders on screen. After defeating them and the Boss, too, you will get to the next level - and each level gets harder and harder, since every invader has its own abilities and you only have a few cannons...

TAITO will stick to the classic level design, but they will revamp the graphics and add background effects for the game to rise to today's standards. New techno beats will accompany the players throughout the levels - which will be interrupted from time to time by minigames (the developers promise they will add to the fun, we just hope they are completely right, since we all know that minigames have the power to destroy a game, no matter how good it is).

Also, if you and your friend are Space Invaders fans, Extreme will now give you to test your abilities against one another with the all new multiplayer mode. Everything, as we said in the beginning, will be available pretty soon, on the 17th of June 2008, for Nintendo DS and PSP consoles.
