As Lindsay Lohan's “Mean Girls” has taught us, one cannot overthrow a dictator unless one cuts off their resources. Apparently, this is exactly what conservationists and animal rights activists are trying to do with SeaWorld.

Not long after the marine park's Bands, Brew and BBQ festival was left without eight musical acts, folks are asking that Southwest Airlines Co. drop its marketing partnership with SeaWorld.

According to Mongabay, a petition started on Change.org demands that the US airline cut all ties with the marine park, and thus show that it does not approve of the marine park's treatment of animals.

“Southwest needs to understand that they are promoting animal cruelty seen in Blackfish if they continue to partner with SeaWorld as they have done for the last 25 years,” says Robin Merritt, the animal rights defender behind this petition.

“They do promotional deals, send out joint-press releases patting each other on the back, and are working hand in hand to profit from the misery of animals exploited for SeaWorld,” she adds.

The petition has thus far collected over 27,000 signatures, and needs to gather at least 35,000. Head over to Change.org if you feel like supporting this initiative.

The petition will be delivered to Southwest Airlines Co.'s corporate headquarters at Dallas Love Field Airport this coming January 8.
