South Park: The Stick of Truth, the role-playing game created by developer Obsidian based on the animated TV show seen on Comedy Central, has managed to take the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart during its first week on sale.

The performance shows that players are still interested in titles that are only launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony, even if many new games are aiming to deliver versions for the next generation of consoles.

South Park has also benefited from the attention linked to the animated show and from the small controversy generated by the fact that publisher Ubisoft announced that it would censor some elements of the game.

The core experience of The Stick of Truth is very solid and the game manages to re-create the source material very faithfully, while delivering some very funny quests and situations.

The combat is probably the weakest part of the game, but true fans of South Park will be able to put up with it while enjoying the narrative.

Thief, the stealth title from developer Eidos Montreal and publisher Square Enix, is in second place for the week that ended on March 8, which is a good performance considering that plenty of fans and reviewers have been unsatisfied with the experience that the reboot delivers.

The studio that created the game has already seen layoffs and the future of the franchise itself might be in jeopardy.

According to UKIE, the last place on the podium in the United Kingdom belongs to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the cooperative shooter that Electronic Arts created using its casual game setting.

Plenty of fans say that the title offers the best such experience in the genre since the launch of Mass Effect 3.

The LEGO Movie Video Game, from TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive, is in fourth place, falling two positions when compared to the previously tracked interval, and is followed by FIFA 14, the EA Sports made football sim that has also lost two places.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first-person shooter from developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision, is in sixth, and it is followed by the Xbox 360 version of the indie hit Minecraft, which continues to sell well as 4J Studios is delivering more texture packs for it.

Battlefield 4, the title from DICE and Electronic Arts, is in eight, followed by LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, the second game built using the famous bricks in virtual form.

The last position in the United Kingdom top ten belongs to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from Ubisoft.
