South Park has long been one of the most controversial shows on television, known for its irreverent approach to hot button topics and for mercilessly attacking those that its creators saw as hypocrites, and the upcoming game based on the franchise will use the same controversial approach.

Speaking to Game Informer Fergus Urquhart, who is the leader of Obsidian, said, “The first thing is this needs to be South Park, it needs to be outrageous, it needs to have crazy crap in it, it needs a lot of swearing, it needs a lot of children dying. Things that happen are just crazy.”

He added, “I'll be honest, we're not exactly sure how the ESRB is going to react to a lot of these things. The first thing is we're not going to worry about it. The first thing is this needs to be South Park. If we have problems, then we'll deal with them. The goal is, let's not restrict ourselves right now. Let's make it South Park, make it nuts, then, as they say, cross that bridge when we come to it.”

The developer says that one of the most interesting aspects of the project is the fact that Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the duo behind South Park, are still working on it and are able to sit down with the Obsidian team in order to share their vision of the show and guide the various developers.

The South Park creators are set to create the main story of the game and will also write some of the dialog while Obsidian will create the role playing mechanics that will power the actual game experience.

South Park: The Game will revolve around a newcomer that will have to befriend the original four main characters and then handle a number of threats while navigating the complex social structure of the South Park universe.
