The latest episode of “South Park,” “Insheeption,” is a spoof of this summer’s blockbuster “Inception.” As it happens, it’s also lifting entire lines word for word from another online parody, from College Humor – and the creators are already apologizing for it.

The original parody went online in August this year, shortly after the release of “Inception,” when the hottest thing to do was to make spoofs or skits based on it.

It was created by Dan Gurewitch and David Young, and is called “Inception Characters Don’t Understand Inception.” Somehow, the “South Park” creators came across it and thought it included lines from the original film.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to do the “Insheeption” episode but, according to the New York Daily News, they couldn’t find a theater that still ran “Inception” or a DVD to buy.

So, in their quest for lines from the film, they turned their attention to the Internet, looking at videos posted online. This way, the stumbled upon the College Humor video, which they believed used actual lines from the film.

“When they found the video, Stone and Parker lifted a lot of the dialogue, word for word, as they thought the lines from the spoof were actually taken from the film and didn’t realize the spoof’s creators, Dan Gurewitch and David Young, wrote the dialogue for the viral video themselves,” the NY Daily News reports.

Stone claims the plagiarism was an honest mistake, partly responsible for which is the speedy production for “South Park,” which did not allow them more time to investigate and research.

“It’s just because we do the show in six days, and we’re stupid and we just threw it together,” Stone adds. Both Stone and Parker have already apologized to the College Humor spoofers.

“After Stone called and apologized to Gurewitch, the original spoofer harbored no hard feelings, and wrote on his blog, ‘All is well and we’re going to meet up with Matt and Trey when they’re in New York’,” the NY Daily News says.

“Maybe next up we’ll see a ‘South Park’ spoof of this incident of plagiarism? The show, already in its 14th season, is slated to debut 14 new episodes a year through 2011,” the same e-zine notes.

Below are the two spoofs in question. Watch and compare – and, of course, enjoy.

I actually watched the episode before watching Inception, and I must say, had they actually watched the movie, they probably would've made a way better episode. There was a ton of material to work with, but alas it seems, that Matt and Trey took the easy route, trying to coin in on a trending movie. As an avid South Park fan, I'm not impressed, you let me down guys. :(
