South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense plans on banning employees from using smartphones inside the ministry’s buildings in an effort to prevent classified military information leaks.

Staffers will still be allowed to make phone calls or use text messaging services. However, they will not be allowed to utilize their device’s camera and Internet connectivity, the Yonhap News Agency informs.

According to the plan, which goes into effect starting with July 15, employees will be required to install a smartphone application that deactivates the “dangerous” features.

Visitors will be banned altogether from taking their smartphones into the building.

While the measure might prevent military data leaks, workers are unhappy, arguing that it will cause major inconveniences.

First, a trial run will be held and modifications will be made if necessary. If all goes well, the ministry intends to expand the plan to other military facilities.
