In order to reduce the large number of bank frauds, the Department of Home Affairs and South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) formed an alliance and plan to put a stop to the criminal phenomenon that targets financial institutions.

The fingerprinting systems will allow customers to check their account details by using their ID and their thumb prints.

According to EastCoastRadio, two organizations have already implemented the innovative systems and others are expected to follow.

"Well it seems to be going pretty well in the banks which have already implemented it. No bank client has complained of any inconvenience. If there's been any issues around the actual verification, there are processes in place where the bank will actually refer the client to the Department of Home Affairs," SABRIC's Kalyani Pillay said.
