South Africa is on track to get Apple’s iPhone 4 even earlier than China, despite an official announcement from Apple saying the next iPhone 4 launch will occur in the  Asian territory.

A report by Fin24.com claims that the iPhone 4 will be launched in South Africa on Wednesday, and that it will be carried by both Vodacom Group and MTN Group.

It acknowledges that Apple’s new smartphone has already been launched in the USA, UK, Japan, and some European countries.

Citing sources at Vodacom, the report claims that a launch party at its Vodaworld campus in Midrand, Johannesburg has now been confirmed. Reportedly, the purpose is the midnight launch of the iPhone 4 on Tuesday night.

MTN Group for its part has confirmed that it will also be stocking the iPhone 4. Until now, the handset was exclusively available from Vodacom.

MTN is rumored to be planning a midnight launch as well.

Although prices for the handset are yet to be disclosed, both operators are said to sell the device with a contract, “or as a cash purchase,” the report notes.

Apple has recently confirmed that the Chinese market is getting the iPhone 4 on September 25, whereas multiple other territories are scheduled to receive the handset before China, yet Apple has made no official statement regarding this move.

Admittedly unconfirmed, the rumors put the Cupertino electronics vendor on track to offer the smartphone to residents of Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, and Israel in the coming days.

According to a report by 9to5mac, which learned of these upcoming launches from an unspecified source, “Apple has some more international iPhone 4 launches up it its sleeve.”

According to the rumor dished out by the site, the iPhone 4 is launching in both Israel and Malaysia this weekend and presumably a few other countries as well.
