The site has added 2 million 'creators' in the last two months

SoundCloud, the music streaming service that's not like all the rest, has been doing quite well for itself lately. It's been growing quite impressively and has taken the opportunity created by the launch of its iPad app to boast about its latest user number, SoundCloud is now at eight million 'creators,' i.e. people that have contributed a file to the site.

A 'creator,' by SoundCloud's definition is not the same as a user, creators are the ones that actively engage with the site and add their own files, even if it's something they've recorded via the web or the mobile apps.

It follows then that SoundCloud has even more registered users than it has creators, of course, since it's so easy to record something to the site, many users should have taken the opportunity to do so, even if it's out of curiosity.

A much more interesting figure would have been, as is always the case, the active user numbers, but 'creators' is one step better than registered users so we'll have to make do.

That said, SoundCloud has finally debuted an iPad app. It's fairly similar to its offerings for Android and the iPhone, or the Mac app for that matter, but it does take advantage of the larger screen to fit more functionality.

The app pretty much enables you to do anything you can do on the site. The updates and new songs stream from the people you follow is split into two panels and you can easily keep up with the action.

The dedicated page for the waveform player and the comments below it are especially good looking.

The recording functionality is present of course, all it takes is a single tap to start recording whatever you want with your iPad. You can then share your recordings with the people you want on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or via email.
