SoundCloud is one of the first big music sites to offer a true HTML5 alternative and you should be very glad that it does. The site debuted its standards based HTML5 widget which, while doesn't replace the older Flash-based one completely, is a true alternative and even a better looking one.

The new HTML5 widget enables you to embed any song from the site anywhere on the web and have be guaranteed that it's going to work on any device with a modern browser, meaning any recent PC, tablet, smartphone and so on.

The new HTML5 embeddable widget is just as easy to use as the older version and comes with a few nice tricks, like the fact that comments don't pop up over the waveform player any more.

"With the launch of SoundCloud for iPad last week, we released one of your most-requested products of this year. Today, we’re following up with your second-most requested feature: an HTML5 widget," SoundCloud announced.

"And while we were at it, our front-end and design teams went back to the drawing board and turned the widgets into real social sound objects, giving your sounds even more context, putting them even more front and center," it said.

The new embedable widget looks rather slick, but it's what's underneath that's more impressive. SoundCloud has gotten rid of Flash altogether in the new app, the UI and the actual streaming are all handled by standard HTML.

Since it's based on HTML5, it works on pretty much anything with a recent browser, most importantly, it works on the iPad.

But it's also less prone to crashing and much less of a resource hog, since most device can handle the streaming and playback natively with ease.

You can check out the new HTML5 player now, just try to share anything on SoundCloud and you'll notice a new HMTL5 tab for the new player.
