SoundCloud has been ramping up its services in the hopes of expanding beyond its initial user base of budding artists and the people that follow them.
But in the meantime, it's been making money off of its premium accounts which offered more storage and better support for users that uploaded a lot of music or sounds.
Now, the site is gearing up for a revamp of its premium options and is introducing new, simpler SoundCloud Pro plans.
"Our Pro and Pro Unlimited plans will replace Premium Lite, Solo, Pro and Pro Plus. Easier to use, they offer more upload minutes for your money, plus access to the tools that matter the most to you," SoundCloud
explained.
The new plans are cheaper or offer more features than the previous ones at the same price level. Existing subscribers will be able to upgrade to the new plans seamlessly.
The standard SoundCloud Pro account allows users to host four hours of sounds for €3 ($3.90) per month or €29 ($38) per year. The Pro Unlimited tier which, as the name suggests, comes with unlimited storage, is €9 ($11.70) per month or €99 ($129) per year.
SoundCloud is also working on some interesting new options for paying users, like the concept of "Moving Sounds," which enables them to use custom visuals as the background for the player. This option should prove interesting as a promotional tool, but also as an artistic one.
