SoulCalibur V is set to have quite a lot of improvements over its predecessor, especially in terms of the Character Creator feature, which allows players to create and use their own fighters, as well as customize items they unlock through the experience.

SoulCalibur V definitely made some waves last week when it was confirmed that Assassin’s Creed protagonist Ezio Auditore would be joining the roster of characters for the upcoming fighting game, but Namco Bandai, after detailing the appearance of the master assassin, has now presented more information about the actual game.

Among the systems detailed by Namco Bandai community manager Rich Bantegui, we have the new Character Creator, which has been overhauled since SoulCalibur IV and can now allow players to start from scratch and really customize their own characters

"You start by choosing which existing character’s move list you want to work with," he said. "You’re able to adjust a ton of new variables, including the size of your character’s limbs, physical height, voice, and gender. But those are just the base configurations in SCV. You can layer details on your character, and even completely change the appearance of items you’ve earned. You can really make your character your own. Even if you and your buddy both used “Pants Type B,” there’s absolutely no way that your pants will look alike."

"The character creator is a great way to reach new fans, too, players who want to expand their creative mindset. According to the development team, we’ve increased the character creation options by 130% percent. We hope to see tons of crazy creations online when SCV hits this January!"

In terms of actual characters that will be included in the roster, Bantegui is tight lipped, but says that lots of fan favorites are certainly going to appear in the game.

"It hurts to see the character list that we have internally and not be able to share. I’m so excited for the character roster that we’ll be releasing as time goes on. There are fan favorites in there but also characters that I don’t think anyone will expect. Stay with us! There’s always a lot of excitement over who will make the final character roster, and we don’t want to detract from that."

In the meantime, before the game's release on January 31, in North America, and February 3, in Europe, Bantegui urges fans to make their voices heard and say which characters they like and want in the new title and which they don't really care for.
