Sony will release a special demo for Soul Sacrifice today, April 17, for the PlayStation Vita, allowing owners of the console to play for free through the entire first chapter of the game and even giving them a chance to transfer their save game file into the full version of the title when it comes out this month.

Soul Sacrifice is one of the biggest PlayStation Vita titles set to appear this year, with legendary designer Keiji Inafune making a special experience geared specifically towards the handheld platform.

We already heard plenty of details about the game's special mechanics, which allows players to sacrifice parts of the protagonist to increase their attacks.

Now, ahead of its release at the end of the month, a demo for Soul Sacrifice will be made available later today, April 17.

The free trial is quite large, according to the PS blog, as Inafune wanted PS Vita owners to form an accurate opinion of the game and added the whole first chapter into the demo.

"The number one reason for the Soul Sacrifice demo to have a lot of content was to show the users the full attraction of Soul Sacrifice. We knew that cutting out a small section of the game and saying, 'Isn’t this part fun?' would not show the users the full potential of the game. We figured that it wouldn’t make sense if the users could not have the 'I want to play more' feeling," he said.

"So, we decided we want to provide, at the very least, this amount of the game for the users. That is why, if you compare it to a standard demo, this became such a substantial piece. But we are confident that this will not become something negative where the users will feel like, 'We played enough.'"

What's more, the demo's save game files are compatible with the full version of Soul Sacrifice, so players will be able to pick up from where they left off during the demo. If they do so, a special bonus item, called Spirits Heart, will be added to their inventory, allowing them to summon a stone golem.

Soul Sacrifice is out on April 30, in North America, and May 1 in Europe.
