The Nintendo DS is a hugely successful platform, managing to sell a lot of units all over the world. As such, a lot of games were made for it, most of them trying to deliver some unique experiences.

One such title is Soul Bubbles, which has been developed by Makensleep and published by European company Eidos Interactive. It features the story of a young shaman apprentice who must use all of his skills to guide lost souls and escort them to safety.

Launched on June 13, 2008 in Europe, the game reached Australian shores on June 20 and North America on July 1, the same year. In it, the shaman must first draw bubbles to protect the souls from the world around them, and then manipulate those bubbles through a variety of ways. From deflating to cutting or joining them, the bubbles can even be filled with gas or water so as to escape traps and extinguish fires. The surface which the bubbles pass over can be a hazard, as sticky or dangerous ones will pop it.

“Soul Bubbles is the most refreshing breath of air to debut on Nintendo DS,” Robert A. Lindsey, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Eidos Inc., said. “The unique bubble physics creates gameplay that DS owners have never experienced before. This combined with a colorful universe and touching storyline is a game sure to engage puzzle fans of all ages.”

With eight worlds consisting of over 40 levels, which can be explored and will test the skills of the shaman, the title has been positively appreciated by a lot of reviewers. The unique puzzles and the use of the DS' features have been its strong points.
