The device maker chose to shut the feature off

One of the perks of having a Snapdragon-enabled device at your disposal is that Qualcomm has embedded the Quick Charge 2.0TM technology into its chips, which is supposed to reduce charging time by offering up to 75% faster charging speeds for compatible devices.

But as it turns out, not all Snapdragon-powered devices will offer this feature, even if the chipset per-se does come with this capability.

This is the case of the new Snapdragon 808 inside the LG G4, which Qualcomm presents as being Quick Charge 2.0-enabled. Given the fact that the silicone piece made a debut not so long ago, as a mid-range solution for powering phones, we don’t see why that shouldn't be the case.

LG G4 does offer wireless charging

So, in theory, the LG G4 should support quick charging, right? Wrong. As you probably know, device makers have the possibility of enabling or disabling certain components or features for reasons which are beyond our humanly grasp.

Such is the case in this story, where LG decided against enabling Quick Charge 2.0 in its latest flagships. So no matter what you do and what sort of Quick Chargers you bring into the equation, the G4 will still need about 127 minutes to charge its 3,000 mAh battery from zero.

LG has been cutting back on the features offered by Snapdragon chips with other smartphones too. For example, the LG G Flex 2 with Snapdragon 810 on board doesn't take advantage of the chip’s Immersive Audio functionality, probably because the handset doesn't have front-facing speakers.

On the other hand, the HTC One M9 takes advantage of both Immersive Audio and Quick Charge, so if you’re craving a smartphone with both these capabilities, you might want to turn your attention to HTC.

Buyers are not impressed by the LG G4

A lot of folks will probably be disappointed by this fact and will most likely stay away from the new LG G4. Actually, a few days ago, we told you that an Asian report revealed that consumer interest for the G4 seems to be very low.

With this in mind, the phone maker might want to reconsider the situation and realize that enabling Quick Charge is not a bad decision, so future batches of the phone might arrive with this functionality.
