As part of its efforts to accelerate the company’s leadership in IT security, Sophos has named Bryan Barney as senior vice president and general manager of the organization’s Network Security Group, and Karl-Heinz Warum as regional vice president of sales for Germany and surrounding countries.

Before joining Sophos, Barney occupied various positions at McAfee. For the past six years, he was the company’s executive vice president of product development.

At Sophos’ Network Security Group, he will be responsible for advanced threat protection, UTM, next-generation firewall (NGFW) and wireless solutions.

“I am incredibly impressed with the Sophos team, and my values and passions align perfectly with where the company is headed. There is a tremendous need in the market for IT security solutions engineered with small and midmarket enterprises in mind,” Barney said.

“Sophos is ideally positioned to address this given the breadth of its technology set, the strength SophosLabs for threat research, and the channel-centric go-to-market approach,” the new senior VP of the Network Security Group added.

“Using Sophos Cloud to combine enduser security, server security and network security into a single, simple and highly effective security solution is a winning strategy. I very much look forward to being part of it.”

As far as Warum is concerned, he joins Sophos after working for Dell. At Dell, he was responsible for channel sales for all products in Germany.

At Sophos, Warum will be responsible for sales in Germany, Northern Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“I believe Sophos has a huge and growing opportunity to capture sizable market share. The 'mega trends' of cloud, mobility, virtualization and big data all represent growth opportunities for Sophos and our partners, and I'm thrilled to be part of the team that will bring security to this landscape,” Warum notes.

Kris Hagerman, the CEO of Sophos, is confident that naming Warum and Barney as leaders is a smart decision.

“We've made no secret of our intentions to double-down in network security, and Bryan brings the ideal skillset and leadership to drive our network business to heights,” he states.

“And in Karl-Heinz we add unsurpassed channel leadership one of our most strategic geographies. Our ability to attract such top talent speaks volumes about the opportunity ahead for Sophos.”

Today, Sophos has also announced the launch of new SG Series appliances in Australia and New Zealand. The products were first unveiled in mid-April.
