A number of Internet users have reported landing on shady-looking websites when searching for “Sophos Technical Support” on Google. The security firm and Google are currently investigating the incidents.

Some of the fake Sophos websites offer contact information. When users call up the listed numbers, they’re actually calling fraudsters who pose as company employees.

In some instances, the crooks offered assistance for free. In such cases, they’re most likely attempting to install a RAT or other malicious software on the victim’s computer.

In other situations, an alleged Sophos tech support representative demanded credit card details and a payment of $300 (240 EUR) for assistance.

The company advises customers to use support mechanisms listed on the official page. It’s also important to know that all users experiencing software issues benefit from free support.
