The feature is currently in its experimental phase and user feedback is expected

Owners of Chromebooks listen up, you have a new trick to take advantage of, starting now. According to Chromium evangelist François Beaufort, Chrome OS users (yes it’s not limited only to Chromebooks) can now sign in and access multiple profiles simultaneously.

What that means is that you’ll be able to switch from one account to another with the outermost ease without having to type in the password.

So from now on, after clicking on the profile picture in the system tray, you’ll spot a new option, which allows you to sign in another account. Once you input the password and such, you’ll be able to alternate between the two (or more) without having to perform the same authentication process over and over again.

Just click on the picture corresponding to the respective account and you’re in. But wait there’s more goodness from where that came from. The update will also allow you to move windows between different profiles.

This is achieved by right-clicking on top of the browser window and then choosing the Move Window To option (the last one). The recipient profile will receive the file in the form of a browser window with the sender’s pic in the left-hand corner.

The same is possible with the Files app, which is a native application of every Chromebook device.

The feature can be enabled via the Chrome OS dev channel, where you have to submit the following line into the Chrome browser. Chrome://flag/#enable-multi-profiles.

Note that at this stage, this is a highly experimental feature, but if it proves to be popular Google will develop it further and release it into the wild.
