The report published by Merrill Lynch, which estimates the losses Sony will
suffer due to the higher quality components included in Play Station 3, seems to be correct if we are to believe the figures.
But there is one thing no analyst can predict: the market response to Xbox 360’s launching and the price policy employed by Sony.
In this moment, Play Station 3’s hardware specifications are indisputably better than Xbox’s. That is why many of those who enjoy gaming consoles will prefer to pay an extra $100 to benefit from improved performances.
Sony has already announced Blu-Ray support for its Play Station 3, while Microsoft said that the integration of HD-DVD is still being discussed. Aside from performances, one should also take into account a crucial factor: games.
While Sony has clearly said that Play Station 3 will be compatible with all Play Station 2 titles, Microsoft preferred to announce that Xbox 360’s performances are good enough to allow Xbox games to be run.
Let’s not forget that after all, gamers have always preferred more advanced equipment over a cheaper one.
