New Xperia mobile phones should be unveiled to the world as soon as January next year, during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

However, unlike last year, when we saw the Xperia arc smartphone going official under the Sony Ericsson brand, next year’s smartphones are expected to be branded only Sony.

More than a single Xperia device should make it to the spotlight at the said event, and the company seems to have already confirmed that, via the invites it sent out to the press.

Sony plans on holding a launch event at 17.00 on Monday 9th January 2012, where it will unveil to the world a number of Xperia models, the guys over at Swedroid explain.

“Please see the attached for the invitation to Sony Ericsson at The Wynn Encore Hotel, where the latest Xperia models will be showcased. [Sony Ericsson by Burson-Marsteller public relations agency],” the invitation reportedly stated.

Considering the fact that Burson-Marsteller is Sony Ericsson’s PR agency for North America, chances are that the company plans a bigger push on this market.

What remains to be seen is whether the new Xperia devices will still be related to Sony Ericsson when made official.

Sony did announce not too long ago that it planned on phasing out the Sony Ericsson brand after it takes over the entire mobile business, but said that this was bound to happen only sometime towards mi-2012.

Another aspect that is still shrouded in mystery regards the handsets to be unveiled to the world in January.

Some of the latest rumors around pointed at smartphones such as the Xperia arc HD (Nozomi) and at an LTE-capable flavor of Xperia PLAY (in addition to a series of other models as well), but nothing is officially confirmed on either of them for the time being.
