Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is finally getting ready for the launch of a new smartphone in the popular Xperia lineup, one that will land on shelves as a 5-inch handset, the same as Xperia Z before it.

Supposedly called Sony Xperia C (codenamed CN3), the mobile phone is said to become official as soon as tomorrow, alongside the long-rumored Xperia Z Ultra phablet.

Rumors on Sony’s plans to release a new 5-inch device powered by a quad-core MediaTek chipset (most probably MT6589) emerged online before, yet nothing specific on the device has been provided until now, XperiaBlog notes.

Courtesy of newly leaked details on the mobile phone, we can expect for Sony to announce it with a 5-inch screen capable of delivering a qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution, as well as with the aforementioned quad-core processor, clocked in at 1.2GHz.

Additionally, the upcoming handset should include 1GB of RAM, along with 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot to allow for further storage expansion.

The specifications list of the device is also said to include an 8-megapixel photo snapper with an Exmor R (not RS) sensor, as well as Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

Although yet unconfirmed, the Xperia C is also said to feature an 8.88mm body and to be set for launch in China, with other selected markets to follow.

More info on the new mobile phone should be unveiled tomorrow, provided that the rumor on its near launch will indeed pan out.

As mentioned above, Sony is also expected to make the Xperia Z Ultra smartphone official on Tuesday, supposedly with a 6.4-inch touchscreen display, a fast quad-core processor inside, and a powerful photo snapper on the back as well. No official confirmation on this phone has emerged until now either.
