Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is reportedly gearing up for the release of an Xperia tipo dual smartphone in the not too distant future.

The handset has just received the necessary approvals from the Global Certification Forum, which suggests that its maker might not relay the release for too long.

Two different flavors of the device have been spotted at the certification forum, one with model number ST21a2 attached to it, and another with model number ST21i2.

Featuring support for two SIM cards, the handset is expected to arrive on shelves before the end of the third quarter of the year, most probably sometime in September.

Xperia tipo dual ST21a2 was approved with support for 1900/1800/900/850 MHz (I) / 900 (VIII) MHz, GSM W-CDMA 2100 bands, while ST21i2 was certified with 1900/1800/900/850 MHz (I) / 1900 (II) / 850 (V) MHz, GSM W-CDMA 2100 connectivity.
