Before the end of the summer, Canadian mobile phone users should be able to purchase a new high-end smartphone from Sony, namely the Xperia ion.

The handset, made official earlier this year for AT&T, will hit Canadian shelves with LTE connectivity inside, although no official word on its arrival has been provided yet.

However, MobileSyrup notes that it should arrive at Rogers, Bell or TELUS and that it could run under Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right from the start.

The smartphone will feature a large 4.6-inch HD touchscreen display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 12MP camera with support for 1080p HD video recording, front camera for video calling, HDMI, DLNA, and the like.

The handset will land in the US next week, and more info on its Canadian launch could become available soon after that.
