Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile could add wireless charging capabilities to its Xperia lineup as soon as the next year, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

According to an article on Nikkei, Sony is set to make devices packing wireless charging capabilities available for purchase starting with the second half of the next year, yet no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

Apparently, Sony has managed to improve the charging process, which should provide users with the possibility to recharge their handsets wirelessly much faster than now.

Sony’s device is said to supply twice the electricity that other similar products can, which will cut charging times in half, as XperiaBlog notes.

The charger is still based on the Qi standard, which means that it will be compatible with a variety of products when launched.
