UK users won't be able to purchase it sooner than that

Just as initially announced, Xperia S, the new Android-based Xperia flagship from Sony, will arrive on shelves in the UK only in March.

The handset was unveiled to the world during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, and was said to need about two months before making it to shelves.

However, some retailers rushed to say that they would have it available before anyone else, and put the handset up for pre-order with a January 30th release date attached to it.

That day has come and gone, but the smartphone still hasn’t made it to users’ hands. March remains the month during which Xperia S should hit the shelves.

Play.com, the retailer that suggested Sony’s smartphone could be launched earlier than initially announced, is now listing it with a March 6th release date attached to it, in line with what other merchandisers say.

Moreover, the guys over at Coolsmartphone claim that they have even contacted Sony on the matter, and that the official release window was said again to be March. Xperia S will arrive on shelves with a dual-core application processor inside, with each core clocked in at 1.5GHz. It will also pack 32GB of flash storage when released.

Sony packed the new smartphone with a 4.3-inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, capable of delivering a HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels).

The specs list of this device also includes a 12-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with Sony Exmor R for mobile, fast capture, and support for full HD video recording. The smartphone also packs a 720p front camera for video calling.

Moreover, the mobile phone includes NFC (Near Field Communications) capabilities, along with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and support for 3G networks. It also features GPS receiver, DLNA, and HDMI, and runs under Google’s Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS, though it is slated for an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon.
