Socialife News, one of the most popular applications available for the owners of Android-based Xperia handsets, is now available for download for devices coming from other manufacturers as well.

Sony has released an update for the application, providing Xperia users with some fixes and enhancements in the new release, currently available for download as version 4.0.26.

The release notes for the app unveil that it is meant to solve “the issue found in the previous version of Socialife News which sometimes made the app crash when running on certain types of devices such as the Xperia SP.”

As for the aforementioned support for non-Sony smartphones, the company notes that it has been included in the app since version 4.0.22.4, which was released at the beginning of the last month.

However, Sony notes that the application will work only on devices that are running under Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or later. Moreover, it appears that not all users out there owning a device powered by a compatible OS version will be able to enjoy the benefits of the application.

According to the mobile phone maker, the hardware specifications of some devices will prevent users from downloading and installing the application. The app can be downloaded and installed on Sony’s Android-based tablets too, but no other models are supported at the moment.

“Socialife News is an Android App that enables you to check your Facebook posts, Tweets, YouTube videos, blog posts, and interesting news articles in one central place,” the application’s description reads.

“Socialife News is an ‘exclusively yours’ social news reader application used with Android smartphones and tablets. Simple operation with a beautiful and easy-to-see screen layout optimized for touchscreens.”

The software also enables users to easily find a variety of news feeds from leading publishers through the “Featured” section. You can simply tap “+” to instantly start subscribing to sources.

Content in Socialife News is provided by Fox News, Financial Times, Mashable, Business Insider, StarCrush, ComicsAlliance, TheBoombox, Mail Online, Evening Standard, Metro, Maximum PC, Sport24, Evene, EL PAÍS, and many others more.

In fact, Sony also notes that the application will also keep users up to date with news coming from its own websites and blogs, including PlayStation official news, Sony Blog, and Sony Xperia Blog.

Users can sign in into Socialife News with a Sony Entertainment Network (SEN), Facebook, or VKontakte account, yet the only smartphones with SEN accounts are Sony’s own Xperia Z1, L, M, SP, Z Ultra, Z, ZL, and ZR.

You can download Socialife News 4.0.26 from Softpedia today, completely free. The app has already seen over 10 million downloads in the Google Play Store.
