Ever since it was introduced, Sony's PS3 console has proven to be quite a jack of all trades since it can play 3D Blu-ray movies, stream Hulu Plus programming, play games as well as do countless other things, but this is one list that is no way closed, Vudu just announcing the PS3 is all set to become the first console to offer its service.

What this basically means is that PS3 customers, from inside the US, will now have the ability to access more than 4,000 HD movies from all major Hollywood studios on-demand, all of them in 1080p Full HD format and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.

This service will go live on November 23, users having to download a special Vudu application from the PlayStation Store that will become available under the "Video" icon on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) menu.

After installing this application, movies will be available at $2 for a two night rental, new Vudu customers receiving $5.99 credit, enabling then to watch their first HD movie on the service for free.

"PlayStation has long been the leader in providing living room entertainment.

PlayStation Network has emerged as the industry leading entertainment hub for experiencing an unmatched amount of digital content," said Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network.

"With the addition of the VUDU application to our free PlayStation Network, users will have another way to access entertainment, with thousands of HD movies available instantly in the comfort of their own home."

This latest news comes at the same time as Vudu announced they have begun the transition to their 2.0 interface that further improves the original Vudu UI, this update coming automatically to all Vudu enabled devices with minimal user intervention.

End of it all, I must say that things certainly shape up well for the PS3, as this announcement brings Sony's console one step closer to becoming the ultimate media entertainment device available out there.
