Sony’s Cyber-shot digital camera lineup has just received the addition of three new models, including a slimline flagship product dubbed the DSC-TX200V and a pair of point-and-shoots with similar features, the DSC-WX70 and WX50.

At the heart of Sony’s svelte DSC-TX200V, stands an Exmor R CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 18.2MP, seconded by a BIONZ processor, a combo which the company claims can capture stills and video with extremely low noise.

A 26mm 5x optical zoom lens completes the camera’s imaging system, while on the back users will find a 3.3-inch Xtra Fine TruBlack OLED touchscreen.

Full HD movie recording at 60fps is also supported (1920x1080/60p), while the waterproof capabilities of the DSC-TX200V enable Sony’s ultra-slim camera to be used underwater (up to 5m or 16 feet).

The DSC-WX70 and DSC-WX50 on the other hand, drop 18.2MP sensor of the older sibling in favor of an almost as powerful 16.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, which is paired with a 25mm 5x optical zoom lens.

Video recording was also limited a bit, as these two cameras shoot at 1080/60i, but users still get the same nine "Picture Effects" options that are available in the DSC-TX200V and were ported from Sony’s NEX-series cams.

As far as the differences between the two point-and-shoots are concerned, these are limited to the display used, as the WX50 comes with an 2.7-inch screen, while the WX70 sports a 3-inch display with touch capabilities.

"We continue to innovate in the compact camera space, finding new ways to help consumers produce high-quality photos and videos as easily as possible, regardless of lighting conditions" said Yosuke Tomoda, director of the Cyber-shot business at Sony Electronics.

"With new technologies designed to improve the overall imaging experience - including extended creativity, control and more - this new lineup of Cyber-shot cameras delivers impressive results with stylish, pocket-sized bodies," concluded the company’s rep.

All three cameras are expected to ship in March in a variety of colors, the top of the line TX200V being priced at $500 (378.5 EUR), while the WX70 and WX50 will be listed at $230 and $200 (174 and 151 EUR), respectively.
