Although it's brought plenty of interesting novelties at CES 2011, it seems that Japanese company Sony still has lots of surprises in store for us, the latest we've come across being their CLM-V55 clip-on LCD monitor for DSLR cameras, designed to make video recording a far easier and more versatile process.

Given the fact that more and more professional videographers employ DSLRs for video recording, the CLM-V55 will really come in handy, especially since its high-resolution WVGA (800 x 480) 5-inch LCD display will make it a lot easier to capture video, offering an enhanced view of the subjects.

The new accessory should attach quite easily to most Interchangeable Lens Digital cameras and HD camcorders, using an auto-lock accessory shoe or ISO shoe and the supplied adaptor, which also enables it to tilt and swivel to any angle.

However, quite obviously, the hot shoe isn't used for transmitting video from the camera or camcorder to the clip-on display, an HDMI cable ensuring the required level of connectivity, while power can be supplied using a battery pack or AC adapter.

Beside being able to deliver more screen space, the CLM-V55 from Sony also packs a couple of features that will actually boost productivity, such as the pixel magnification mode that assists with accurate focus confirmation, and a color peaking function that highlights the edges of accurately-focused areas of the video image.

Plus, the device also sports a control wheel for quickly adjusting some of the monitor's settings, including here aspect ratio (16:9/4:3), volume, brightness, contrast, color tone (phase), color temp and auto dimmer, as well as a built-in mono speaker and a headphone jack.

The CLM-V55 LCD video monitor by Sony will become available from March 2011 across European markets, but, unfortunately, for the time being, no pricing details have been provided.
