The commotion caused by the announcements related to the launching of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has made us forget that PlayStation 2 is still around.
Sony has recently announced that since 2000, 90 million PS2 consoles have been sold world wide.
In the last year only, Sony has sold over 16 million of these gizmos and by 2006, the company hopes to set a new record by selling more than 100 million units.
Although we would have expected most of the PS2 to be sold in Asia, but actually, the Americans are the most fanatic buyers with 36 million units, followed closely by the Europeans with 32 million consoles.
And if you add to these impressive figures the fact that Sony has sold 800 million games then you get a pretty accurate image of the empire ruled by the Japanese company.
