The rumors of an imminent price
cut for the handheld have been officially dismissed by a Sony UK representative, in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. "Currently we have no plans to cut the price of the PSP at this time," were the spokesperson's exact words.
The source of the rumors is industry analyst P.J. McNealy, who told CNN Money that "there is a price cut coming in the second half of the year." According to McNealy, the PSP "has lost momentum. Nintendo has had a great run since it launched the DS Lite and Sony needs to regain some ground." His estimate was that Sony would drop the price of the handheld in the United States from 199$ to 149$, bringing it closer to the 129$ price point of Nintendo's
DS.
Other industry analysts, on the other hand, predict that Sony will more likely cut the price of the PlayStation 2 by Christmas, following the example of numerous retailers all over the world. Who's to believe?
