Shakira latest album, "Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1" (Epic) created a dispute between Sony and Ritmo Latino. Ritmo Latino was upset because the "Fijacion Oral" promotion schedule did not include an in-store appearance at any of the company's 42 stores, reports Reuters.
Sony called it a "scheduling conflict", but Ritmo Latino "considered it a cultural slap". To stop the conflict, Shakira agreed a Ritmo appearance in fall.
"The scheduling conflict ... did not involve Shakira, whose label is responsible for scheduling decisions," read part of a joint statement from the two companies, issued June 13. "Sony BMG Norte and Ritmo Latino look forward to continuing their long-standing relationship."
