They could make a joint venture based on the Vaio PC business

Sony makes lots of different things, and laptops are some of those. Unfortunately, the Vaio PC business has been losing money for a while. Lenovo might just pounce on that though.

Granted, Sony already denied the report that it was talking with Lenovo about a joint venture.

But the rumors persist, because Sony has to revise handling of the Vaio laptop business somehow, and Lenovo is always looking for more resources it can exploit. It always helps it strengthen its position after all, and since said position is that of top PC maker, all the better.

That said, Sony did not deny it was looking at various possibilities for the Vaio PC unit, whatever they might be.

Meanwhile, Lenovo is busy assimilating Google's Motorola Mobility handset unit, so even if it doesn't get Sony's small sub-business, it is keeping itself busy.
