There have been lots of leaks and rumors in the past month about Sony's new interchangeable lens camera that comes as a successor for the popular NEX-6/7 models but, today, the company has officially revealed the a6000.

As Sony a5000 claimed the world's smallest and lightest mirrorless camera title, the new a6000 comes with another world first feature, namely the fastest AF performance (0.06 sec) among APS-C interchangeable lens cameras.

This was possible thanks to the new Hybrid AF system that uses a 179-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor and accurate contrast detection. The combination of the two allows the Sony a6000 to capture up to 11 frames per second with continuous AF tracking in burst shooting mode.

As previously rumored, Sony a6000 comes with a 24.3MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with gapless-on-chip design and BIONZ X image processor that allows you to capture 1080p Full HD video footage in AVCHD and MP file formats.

If you like shooting in low-light conditions, you should know that the new a6000 comes with a high ISO sensitivity up to ISO 25,600 which, combined with fast aperture lenses, will allow you to get the best results using any lighting setup.

If you were used to the NEX-6 XGA EVF, you might be disappointed by the a6000 viewfinder, which comes with a smaller size and lower, 1,440K-dot resolution compared, with 2,359K-dot display of the NEX-6.

In addition to that, Sony's new mirrorless camera also features built-in Wi-Fi with NFC support that allows you to instantly share your images and videos on compatible smart devices. Using Wi-Fi you can also control the camera's settings from an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet using the dedicated app for each platform.

Sony a6000 will be available in two colors (silver and black) starting April 20 at a price of $650 / €477 for body only and $800 / €587 for the 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens kit.
