Sony’s Xperia ion (LT28i) smartphone is a highly appealing device, but it can be made even more attractive than before, it seems.

The guys over at XDA-Developers managed to root the smartphone and also made available an unsecure kernel for it, for all those who would like to customize their devices to be able to do so.

The process is not that complicated, although it does involve flashing the phone with the unsecure kernel.

Those who would like to learn more on what the process involves should head over to this thread on XDA-Developers’ forum.

However, they should note that the rooting of a device usually voids warranty and that they will be the only ones to be held responsible, provided that anything happens with the device when attempting to tweak it.
