Sony has yet to launch the Xperia Z4, but word about the Japanese company’s next-gen flagship, the Xperia Z5, has already surfaced.

We’ve been seeing the Xperia Z4 leak out in press renders and spy shots, so we currently have a pretty good image of how the flagship will end up looking in real life.

Don’t get us wrong, Xperia phones are some of the prettiest models on the market, but the Xperia Z4 won’t probably bring anything new to the table in terms of design. So the new phone will basically look just like the old models.

Luckily for those who are bored with the old style, Sony is actively working to improve the design of its phones and will launch a new model taking advantage of this new look as soon as the end of the year.

The Sony Xperia Z5 already surfaces

According to a report coming out of Android Origin, Sony is looking to go back to old habits and roll out a flagship model every six months. The Xperia Z4 is coming towards the middle of the year, so the Xperia Z5 might see the light of day during the fourth quarter or maybe first quarter of 2016.

On top of the Xperia Z5, Sony is also prepping the Xperia Z5 Ultra and Xperia Z5 Compact handsets. The first two models will apparently be powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen platform, the Snapdragon 820. So far, we don’t know what the Xperia Z5 Compact will run on.

As for the Xperia Z5 Ultra, it has been revealed that Sony will employ a fingerprint scanner on it, thus making it the first model from the phone maker’s lineup to come equipped with one. Sony will apparently use the Ultrasonic Sense ID produced by Qualcomm.

The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Ultra will be offered with a QHD display, and both models will take advantage of 4GB of RAM. Also, we’re told that new camera gear and software will be mounted on top of the Xperia Z5 line, but don’t expect any OIS (optical image stabilization).

Apparently, Sony is still a few years away from actually putting OIS on its handsets.

So far, the Xperia Z5 is shaping up to be quite an interesting model and we’ll keep an eye out for it, in case more details about it emerge.
