Sony Xperia Z3+ performs worse than the HTC One M9

After having launched the Japan-exclusive Xperia Z4, yesterday Sony pulled the veil off the international Xperia Z3+. Even as their naming schemes differ, the new Xperia models are actually identical as far as the spec list is concerned.

If you need a little reminding, the Xperia Z3+ arrives with a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and takes advantage of an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 graphics and 3GB of RAM. Basically, it’s the same configuration as the HTC One M9.

While the Sony Xperia Z3+ is specced like any other flagship these days, preliminary benchmark results show that the phone actually performs worse than competing products (as seen at ePrice).

The Chinese website took the new Xperia Z3+ and put it through several benchmarking apps, including AnTuTu, Vellamo and Basemark ES 2.0.

Sony Xperia Z3+ shows unimpressive performance

In the first test, the new Sony flagships scored 50,875 points, which placed it below the similar HTC One M9 and its 56,896 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 (58,382) and Galaxy S6 edge (69,042) duo.

But the Xperia Z3+ faired out better than the hexa-core Snapdragon 808-packed LG G4 (50,330) and the Snapdragon 805-endowed Nexus 6 (49,480).

Moving on to Vellamo, the Sony handset scored 1,447 points in the Metal section and 3,345 in the Browsing test.

In the Metal test, the Xperia Z3+ performed the worse of all the handsets factored into the equation. Even the Snapdragon 801-enhanced Xperia Z3 scored 1,571 points. The LG G4 got 2,369 points, while the HTC One took home 2,218. The Nexus 6 scored the most in this test with 2,731 points, thus overtaking the Galaxy S6 edge beast (2,616).

In the browsing test, the Xperia Z3+ didn’t fare out any better, as it was again overtaken by the Nexus 6 (3,644), LG G4 (3,948), HTC One M9 (3,435) and Samsung Galaxy S6 (5,751) and Galaxy S6 edge (5,745).

ePrice also managed to see how hot the new Xperia Z3+ tends to get. They measured a peak of 40.2 degrees Celsius temperature (104.36 Fahrenheit) for the CPU after having performed all the three tests we detailed for you above. Yes, it’s a bit hot but totally acceptable in a real-life scenario.
