Sony has announced it will be holding an event in New York on October 9, a day after HTC is expected to do so, when the company will probably launch some of the products it unveiled at IFA 2014, earlier this month.

As it’s the case with invitations for events like this, Sony doesn't really tell us what the event will focus on, but we can get an idea based on data that surfaced on the internet.

Sony's new Xperias are coming to the US soon

The invite urges us to “Demand Great," which is the tagline used to promote the Xperia line-up in countries where these new products have already been announced. And to stay faithful to our purposes, we’ll tell you that Sony will probably launch the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact in the US.

The tablet is one of the few interesting slates that got launched at IFA 2014. The Berlin event seemed to focus on smartphones and smartwatches/wearables and most brand vendors were busy with these product categories. Not Sony, though.

You might ask why we are so confident that Sony will bring its latest 8-inch tablet in the US. The tablet has recently been spotted taking a stroll at the FCC. The device was codenamed SGP41 and has received certification to work on GSM, WCDMA and FDD-LTE networks.

The tablet also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC onboard, so rivals like the iPad Mini with Retina display or Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 should be really afraid.

This small tablet is one of the slimmest in the world, coming in with a profile of just 6.4 mm / 0.25 inches and a weight of just 270 g / 0.5 lbs. As with its predecessor, the Xperia Z2 Tablet, this little fellow has been IP65/68 certified for waterproof and dustproof capabilities.

As for bare specs, the tab comes with an 8-inch full HD Triluminos display that draws life from a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor fitted with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD).

The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and takes advantage of 4,500 mAh battery which is said to be able to sustain up to 13 hours of video playback.

The mini tablet is compatible with Sony PlayStation

But what makes the Compact tablet really special is the fact that it comes with integrated PlayStation support.

This means that whenever you can’t use your TV, owners of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact users can pair up their tablet with their console instead, in order to go ahead and play games on the tablet via the DualShock 4 controller.

Taking this into account, you can see why we’re pretty excited to see the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact arrive in the US.

Sony’s event is expected to last up to 90 minutes and the tech giant is believed to also unleash a bunch of new smartphones.
