We still don't have any confirmation that it will arrive in the US

Sony announced several weeks ago that the Xperia Z2 would not be available for purchase in the United States through its official retail channels. This means that no carrier will be offering the smartphone, but you might eventually find it from various online retailers across the country at higher prices.

In fact, the Japanese company has reiterated that it does not plan to enter the US market, probably due to the fierce competition with rivals such as HTC, Samsung and Apple.

Still, there were rumors that at least one Xperia smartphone announced earlier this year would be launched in the United States exclusively through Verizon Wireless carrier. The Xperia Z2, Sony's flagships smartphone was rumored to arrive in the US with Verizon's branding etched on it.

Earlier this month, an Xperia Z2 unit with Verizon's logo was briefly listed on Sony's website, but the Japanese company pulled the photo quickly. However, that was another proof that Sony might indeed introduce the Verizon Xperia Z2 at some point.

Today, another proof of Verizon Xperia Z2's existence leaked online. According to Phonearena, another Sony Xperia Z2 unit with Verizon's logo appears in a promo meant to highlight the smartphone's IP58 certification features.

The smartphone clearly has the Verizon's logo on the back, though the promo appears in an Asian country and not in the United States, which is a little bit weird.

For the time being, it's still unclear whether or not the Xperia Z2 will be officially released in the United States, even though there are many proofs that sustain it.

Still, there's a chance that these findings might be reminiscent to some promo materials for a campaign that was not meant to happen. Perhaps Sony wanted to launch the Xperia Z2 in the United States as a Verizon exclusive, but then changed its mind for unknown reasons.

Perhaps these images of a Verizon Xperia Z2 are posted by mistake, otherwise we don't see why they are pulled quickly after word gets out.

Nevertheless, these are only speculations which have yet to be confirmed and until Sony doesn't come forward with an official statement, we won't know for sure if any Xperia device announced this year will make it in the United States.

Sony fans who really want to grab the Xperia Z2 might have to wait a bit longer until some of the major retailers in the US receive the device in stock. However, they should be prepared to pay a high price for it. Stay tuned for more updates on the Xperia Z2 availability in the US.
