Sony has launched its flagship tablet, the Xperia Z2 Tablet back at MWC 2014 in Barcelona. Since then the slate has been made available for order in several European countries and will soon make it to the US shoreline.

The guys over at GSMArena have already grabbed the new tablet and took the opportunity to put it to the test, performing a battery test.

Back when it was launched, Sony said the slate would be able to provide up to 10 hours of juice on a single charge, but such initial claims need to be verified in order to be proved accurate. The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablets uses a 6,000mAh battery, which has pretty much the same capacity as the previous model.

The tablet comes with a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and uses Sony’s own technology that works with blue LEDs and red and green phosphor, as opposed to the traditional white LED backlight.

The screen seems to be quite bright when used at full capacity (484 nits), but during the battery test the brightness slider was placed in the middle. This caused the screen to dim considerably, so with the slider set at 50%, the brightness levels revolved around 100 nits.

The tablet is actually capable of taking matters in its own hands and will adjust the backlight strength according to the ambient light.

During the test, the tablet was positioned on a desk next a window, so the brightness levels were approximately 100 nits.

In order for you to compare, the Apple iPad Air has 180 nits, while the Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 has 310 nits (at 50%).

Anyway, the test showed the tablet is pretty efficient when used to browse the web and for video play-back.

The tablet scores 12:53 hours in the web-browsing test, which is better than advertised by the company. So the Sony tablet turned out to be better than the Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 with around three and a half hours and beats the iPad Air by two and a half.

However, when the brightness levels are bumped, the Xperia Z2 Tablet lasts a lot less.

As for video playback, the Sony slate performed decently and was found to be able to sustain 11:46 hours. The Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 was a little in front of the Sony slate, as well as Apple’s iPad Air.

Nevertheless, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet proved it was capable of squeezing the best out of the 6000mAh battery and with power-saving options users can use as far as 12 hours.
