CWM recovery is important for users looking to go the custom ROM way

Earlier today we told you about the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet being put to the test, in terms of battery performance. But as it turns out, this isn’t the only news related to the tablet we have to share with you.

After the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone was introduced in the land of the root, it’s time for its tablet sibling to receive its own dedicated touch custom recovery which is based on the popular CWM.

Recoveries are essential to have if you jump onboard the custom ROM bandwagon, but they can prove pretty useful even if you decide to stick to the manufacturer’s firmware.

Android devices come with their own stock recovery, but they are quite limited and most users might be left craving for more. Custom recoveries open the gateways to different Android experiences, allowing users to install different custom ROMs and even gain root access.

And one of the most popular ways to do recovery is ClockworkMod or CWM, which has been in the game for a while now. The only caveat was CWM wasn't the fastest to adopt new features, so other recoveries like Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP have taken up the job of adding feats like touchscreen capabilities.

Nevertheless, a touch-enabled CWM recovery has been made available for Sony’s latest flagship slate, the Xperia Z2 Tabelt.

One of the guys over at the xda-developer forum has come up with the recovery for the tablet and getting in onboard of the slate is relatively pretty easy, but there are a few things you need to be doing first.

First and foremost, it requires an unlocked bootloader and Sony has been known to provide such things, but the new Xperia Z2 Tablet is not yet listed on the official supported device list. But that’s probably because the device is still very new.

The tablet should also run the stock Android 4.4.2 ROM. We have to note the recovery is only compatible with the Wi-Fi only version of the device or model number SGP511, so check if you have this version before you start.

The flagship tablet comes bundling a 10.1-inch screen with a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) like its predecessor that was introduced a year ago.

The slate draws power from a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor combined with 3GB of RAM. Sony has also added two cameras onboard (8.1MP on the back and 2.2 MP in front). The slate is already available for purchase in some countries in Europe, including the UK.
